When do the kids start practice?

Practices are up to the individual Managers. Some practice more than others. Typically all teams are selected at the beginning half of March. Practices may start anytime after that (weather dependent), however Plainfield Park District fields cannot be used until April 1.

How do I assure that my child's practice will be conviently located?
The Plainfield area district is large geographically. Managers will typically hold practice where its convenient for them. As volunteers, that is their right. The only way to have control over where and when your child practices is to step up and volunteer to manage a team.

Can my child be placed on the same team with his/her best friend(s)?
The PAC does not assign players to teams. After registration is closed, the PAC organizes drafts for the various age divisions. Managers choose their players one at at a time in a rotating order. The only player they are guaranteed to get on their team is their own son or daughter. The PAC policy is that siblings (but not cousins) can be drafted on the same team. The only way to have control over who your son or daughter plays with is to step up and volunteer to manage a team.
If I have one child on a full-time travel team, and the other will be playing in house. Will I be able to take the $25.00 family discount off for the in-house player?
No. The discount only applies to in-house players. Travel players fall under a separate registration.

Can my son or daughter play outside their designated age group?
For Baseball, all players will remain in their designated league. We do not move players up or down from their playing level. We have the Maverick Division for 6 and 7 year olds though that is 1/2 season coach pitch and 1/2 season Pinto (kid pitch).
For Softball, Coach Pitch & 8U have a designated age overlap, which allows 7 year old players to stay in the Coach Pitch league for additional development, if needed. Other softball players may petition the VP of Softball to move up (but not down) one division.

What is the family activity fee for?
PAC is made up of strictly volunteers. From the Executive board down to the parent coaches and managers we are all unpaid volunteersTherefore, activities come up during the course of preseason, such as field prep, uniform handout, candy distribution, equipment handout, etc... or during the season such as assistant coaches, managers, picture day, concession stand volunteers etc..., where PAC needs assistance. If a qualified family adult member volunteers for one of these items you will receive back your $50 fee at the end of the season. If PAC can't get volunteers than we hire people with the $50 to run these activities.

How do I sign up to work in the concession stand?
In April, you can sign up through the website for times and locations.

If both my wife and I each perform one of the designated activities do we each get the $50 refund?
No. Each Family will only receive one family activity fee refund regardless of how many activities are performed.

Can the family activity fee be refunded if our child performs one of the designated activities?
No. The family activity fee is designed to get the parents involved with the program in some way. Children will not be permitted to perform the activities to receive the family activity refund (regardless of the child’s age). For certain activities your child may be permitted to attend while you are there. This is at the discretion of the person running the activity. No children will be permitted with the parent in the concession stand for any reason.

What type of fundraiser does PAC use?
Worlds Finest Chocolate will be used as a way to help lower your registration fees. Each family may elect to purchase case(s) of (90) candy bars for $40 per case. The suggested resell price is $1/bar. If you sell all the bars, this will offset your fees by $50 per case, and you keep the funds.

I am an assistant coach for one of the teams. Do I still have to volunteer otherwise to receive my $50 family activity fee refund?
Each Manager may designate up to two people to receive their activity fee refund as an assistant coach. If you are so designated, you do not need to perform any other activity to receive your refund.

Are games canceled by weather rescheduled?
We will make every effort to reschedule all games that are canceled or suspended due to weather. However, due to field space availability some games may need to be rescheduled on Sunday or days typically not utilized. Games that are canceled near the end of the season may not be able to get rescheduled. In the fall season we are very limited to field space and daylight. Some games may not be made up, but we make every attempt to play at least 12 games per team (including playoffs).

Items required by each player
PAC supplies uniforms, balls, and catcher's equipment for each team. Other items the players are responsible for are as follows: Bat sized properly for the player and rated for the Division (see Bat guide below). Plastic/rubber cleats (metal spikes are only allowed only at Pony and Colt), Glove, Batting Helmet with face guard (guards optional for Bronco and above baseball), Athletic cup (boys). Optional: Batting Gloves, Bat Bag, Infield mask (softball).

What type of bat should I purchase?
Bats can be either aluminum, wood, or composite material. For weight selection, we suggest to error on the side of selecting a lighter bat. Better performance (and accuracy) is achieved by a faster swing, not by using a heavier bat. A good rule-of-thumb to use is to have your child hold the bat in one hand all the way at the knob end, and extend their arm and the bat out parallel to the ground for 10 seconds. If the bat wiggles, or the arm dips, its too heavy.

Additonally, for Baseball (COACH PITCH through PONY), we are tranistioning to a new USA stamped standard. We strongly suggest if you are purchasing a metal bat, that it have the USA approved stamp on it. It's very likely bats without this stamp may not be able to be used after 2018. So, if you indend on using it for more than one season at Pony or under, make sure it has a USA stamp. (COLT/PALOMINO)- will be restricted to 2 5/8 inch or less diameter bats with a maximum of a drop 3 weight to length restriction and no more than 36 inches in length. They comply with NFHS restrictions and have the BBCOR approved label. For Softball, they must bear the approved by ASA logo. Wood bats need not have an approved label, but be free or cracks or breaks and be smooth in construction.

We live in another town, can I register my child to play in the Plainfield league?
Yes you can. We have a change in our policy and agreement with the Plainfield Park District who govern the actual field use.  So you can live in any town and participate to play in PAC.
